I'm using an old Hitachi hard drive that I salvaged from a set-top box, dated April 2012. It has about 770 hours of use and around 2300 cycles on it, mainly used for cold storage. While transferring data, I've noticed it's making some noise, and I want to know if that's to be expected. I apologize for using a Discord CDN link instead of attaching a video directly, but I wanted to share a clip of the noise it makes during these transfers.

Hard drives can be a bit noisy while reading and writing data, but it should generally be quiet. If the noise seems louder than normal, you might want to download something like CrystalDiskInfo to check for any signs of failure. Given that your drive is over 10 years old, I'd personally recommend investing in a new or refurbished hard drive instead, just to be safe. Older drives can be prone to failures, and newer models often have better speed and reliability.

I don’t mind the transfer speed; I’ve got another similar drive for redundancy. My internal HDD is quiet during use, and this one seems louder than even some of my older IDE drives. But CrystalDiskInfo says it's all good, so I guess I’ll keep using it. Thanks for the insight!
