I'm considering upgrading my current PC as it's nearing 7 years old. Right now, I've got an i5 3570k, a Gigabyte Z370 motherboard with 16GB of Geil DDR4 RAM, and a Gigabyte RTX 2080. Due to some secure boot issues with Battlefield 6, I'm looking at a refresh. With RAM prices rising and GPU prices being reasonable, I'm thinking about these components: 7800X3D for $598, MSI Pro B850 for $289, Galax RTX 5070 Ti for $1299, and Geil Orion 5 32GB DDR5 6000MHz for $634. I live in Australia, so these are local prices. My usage is mainly basic browsing and gaming at 1440p, and I might upgrade to 4k later. I'm hoping to keep the total cost around $3k. Does this build seem solid, or do you have alternative suggestions? I could stretch my budget for a 5080, but I've read it might not be worth the extra $500 AUD.

If you want to consider going with Intel and using DDR4, you could save enough to grab a nice 4K OLED monitor within your budget! At 4K, even with a 5080, the difference between CPUs and DDR4 vs. DDR5 becomes less significant. I found a solid alternative build for you:
- Intel Core i5-14600KF CPU for $355
- MSI B760 Gaming Plus WiFi DDR4 Motherboard for $257
- 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 RAM for under $100
- PNY GeForce RTX 5070 Ti for $1249
- An OLED monitor for around $1000
This setup brings your total to about $2950, leaving room for any extra accessories you might want!

Thanks for the advice! I hadn’t thought about using my current RAM. Since I’m not in a rush to move to 4K, do you think going for a DDR5 build is better for future-proofing?
