I'm trying to reinstall Windows on an old HP laptop with an 11th gen CPU. However, when I reach the installation step where it asks where to install, it only shows my USB drive and not my hard drive. I had previously installed Windows on it, but now it seems like I can't find the root drive at all. I believe RST is enabled, but I'm really lost on what to do next. YouTube tutorials are confusing, and I'm just looking for some guidance. Thanks!

It's definitely tricky sometimes! If you're stuck with the installer asking for drivers, it might mean there's a compatibility issue. Have you considered using a Windows support forum for more tailored advice? They might have specific fixes that'll help with the install process. I suggest switching RST off if you haven't already, and see if that opens up the drives for you.
Yeah, sometimes a fresh perspective can make a difference! Don’t hesitate to ask.
It sounds like a common issue with the Windows installer not recognizing drives. Have you checked if you need to disable RST (Rapid Storage Technology) in your BIOS? That feature can cause problems with recognizing drives during installation. If you can't find the option in your BIOS, try searching online for how to disable RST on your specific HP model. It usually can be switched to AHCI mode, which should help the installer see your hard drive. Good luck!
I tried disabling RST, but my BIOS options are pretty limited. Do you think trying to reset the BIOS would help?
Yeah, resetting the BIOS might restore some options but be careful! Make sure you know your current settings first.

I will check out more Windows forums! I just feel like I'm going in circles here.
