My Alienware M16 died unexpectedly after less than a year—what could have gone wrong?

I purchased an Alienware M16 laptop for video editing at work, and it has suddenly stopped working after about a year. I never used it for gaming and only used it for work purposes. It was functioning fine all day until I closed it without shutting it down to continue my work at home. When I reopened it, the keyboard started acting weird; it double-registered key presses. Then the keyboard backlight turned off, and soon after, it completely stopped responding. After a proper shutdown and restart, the alien logo began blinking, but the screen remained black. I heard the Windows startup sound, but nothing appeared on the screen. This happened before, and I usually fixed it by accessing the BIOS, but this time the keyboard malfunctioned again, and the laptop shut down. I'm really frustrated as this is a pricey machine. Did I mess up somehow? I have no idea what's wrong with it or how it failed out of nowhere.

It's completely normal for technology to fail sometimes. Just file a warranty claim, and you'll be good to go.

This is exactly what warranties are meant for.

Let your company handle this since they own the laptop; it's part of their responsibility. They'll likely manage the warranty.

Does the keyboard or the Alienware logo light up when you try turning it on?

No, it’s completely unresponsive.

From what you've described, it sounds like you didn't do anything wrong at all. Bring it back to your workplace and let your boss know what happened. Hopefully, the IT team can take care of it or still use the warranty for repairs.
