Considering a Switch to Linux: Is it Worth It?

I've been thinking about making the leap from Windows 10 to Linux for some time now and I'm finally feeling motivated to do it. My main concerns are whether my laptop (HP Stream 14-ax0XX with an Intel Celeron N3060, 4GB RAM, and 32GB storage) can handle it, and also which Linux distribution would be the best fit for me. Any thoughts?

Switching to Linux is going to be a fun experiment! It’s like diving into a new MMORPG—everything feels fresh and exciting.

It’s totally doable! But really consider if you can live without any Windows-specific software or if you're okay finding alternatives.

I've been pretty careful to get rid of anything I was attached to, so I'm all set for the switch!

With your hardware, Linux will definitely run better than Windows 10. Mint and Fedora are great suggestions. Also, don’t forget to try out different desktop environments like Cinnamon, KDE, or XFCE to see what you enjoy the most.

Yes, it's definitely viable! If Windows 10 is running on your laptop, you can expect Linux to give you some serious performance improvements. You might want to create a bootable USB to test it out before fully committing. Solid choices for distros would be Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Debian.

Based on my experience with Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and Fedora recently, I'd suggest testing a few distros to see what vibes with your hardware. Fedora has worked well for me, while I had some flickering issues with Mint and Ubuntu.
