I've got 32 GB of RAM installed with two 16 GB sticks, and it was working fine until recently. Lately, I've noticed slowdowns, especially when RAM usage hits around 80%. However, when I check the task manager, the total memory used seems to max out at about 16 GB, which doesn't add up with the slow performance I'm experiencing. I've checked multiple ways, including Windows settings and BIOS, and everything shows 32 GB detected. I can't figure out why the task manager is only reflecting half my available RAM despite having a 64-bit OS. Does anyone know what could be causing this discrepancy?

Task manager reflects what's actively in use from the total available. For example, if about 8 GB are in use and the rest is allocated for caching or buffering, it won't look full. Honestly, the fact that you’re not maxed out is a sign of good efficiency. If you're looking for heavier usage, running more demanding applications might help you utilize more RAM!
Task manager tends to display memory in a way that can be misleading. You could try using RAMMap to get a more detailed breakdown of your RAM usage, which might help clarify where the memory is going.
Have you tried switching the memory display to percentage instead of megabytes? Sometimes that helps give a clearer view of what's available and what’s being used. It's a bit weird, but it works!
It sounds like task manager isn't showing the full picture of your memory usage. Sometimes it doesn't account for all memory being used by the OS. You might want to try downloading Process Explorer for more detailed insights into what's consuming your RAM.
I tried Process Explorer, and it gave similar values to task manager, showing around 50% used, which doesn’t help me much.
Just a thought, but your PC or the applications you’re using may only utilize as much RAM as they need. When RAM usage hits 100%, you could face problems down the line, so maybe it's designed to work that way to optimize performance?
I understand that, but the real problem is that task manager indicates I only have 16 GB available, and I'm experiencing slowdowns at around 14 GB usage, even though everything else recognizes 32 GB.

I used RAMMap but the values matched up with what I saw in task manager.
