Will Reformatting My Laptop Get Rid of SentinelOne?

I'm in a tough spot because I've been using my personal MSI laptop for both work and gaming. Since I started working from home in June, my company made us install SentinelOne around August. At first, everything was okay, but in October, the software crashed my games and deleted them from Steam and Epic, which was a nightmare. I've been trying to get help from my boss and IT, but it feels like they're dragging their feet on getting work laptops for us. I'm considering buying a cheap laptop for work so I can keep SentinelOne on that and have my main laptop free for gaming again. If I reformat my laptop, will SentinelOne be completely removed, or have I read too many horror stories about it being hard to get rid of? Basically, if I reformat, can I finally enjoy my games in peace?

Reformatting your laptop should definitely remove SentinelOne completely since it’s just software. A fresh install of your OS will wipe everything. You might want to try uninstalling it first if you can, but if your company's IT is as unresponsive as it sounds, you probably won’t have much luck. By the way, your situation with using personal hardware for work is not ideal—companies should be providing work laptops for this reason! Good luck!

In my experience, I had a similar issue at a job before. I ended up doing a fresh install of Windows in a virtual machine for work-related stuff, which worked well until they finally got me a proper company laptop. It keeps your personal space and work safe from each other. If you have extra hardware, I’d suggest that as an option while you wait for them to sort their end out.

If reformatting seems too extreme for now, you could also ask IT to whitelist your games before going down that road. But yeah, with situations like yours, companies should really be providing equipment instead of relying on employees’ personal devices. It’s not just inconvenient; it can also breach privacy. Definitely check with them about this!

Honestly, your company should be responsible for providing you with a work laptop. You shouldn't be dealing with these issues on your personal machine. But yes, a reformat will clear out SentinelOne. If you really want to avoid conflict, just tell IT that their software is making your computer unusable and you need it removed by a certain date. But if they keep slacking, do what you need to do to get your gaming back!
