I recently got a new PC for my daughter, but it came with a pre-installed McAfee free trial that automatically sent a notification to my email. My daughter already opened the app, and now I'm anxious about how to cancel the trial. I've heard that just uninstalling it might not be safe, and I really can't afford to pay for it. I haven't entered any payment info, but I'm worried since it might have my email address linked. Any advice on how to safely cancel this free trial would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The easiest way to remove McAfee is to download their removal tool from their website. Just run that, and it should be gone! After that, make sure to check your email for any unsubscribe options if you want to ensure they don't have your info anymore.
Just uninstalling it should be fine too, especially since you haven't inputted any payment details. Windows Defender works well enough, and you can always turn to reputable antivirus options later on if needed. Just keep your system updated and using something like an ad blocker for web safety!
If you haven't entered any payment details, you should be in the clear! Try logging into your McAfee account on their website to see if there's an option to manage subscriptions. There might be a cancel button there. Let me know if you need more help!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check my McAfee account and see if I can find that cancel option.

Great idea! I didn’t know they had a removal tool. I’ll look for it.
