Why is my i5-14600KF hitting 100°C with a Scythe Fuma 2 cooler?

Hey everyone, I'm seeking some opinions because I'm getting some really high temperatures with my new setup, and it doesn't seem right. Here are my specs:

- **CPU:** Intel i5-14600KF
- **Cooler:** Scythe Fuma 2 with the official LGA 1700 mounting kit
- **Motherboard:** ASUS TUF Gaming B760M-PLUS WiFi II
- **Case:** Darkflash DLX case with 9 fans, so airflow should be fine
- **Ambient temp:** Around 25-30°C (I'm in Brazil)

Previously, I had a Ryzen 7 5800X on an ASUS TUF board in the same case and everything was normal temperature-wise, no overheating issues like I'm experiencing now.

Now, I'm dealing with these issues:
- Idle temperatures hover around **60-75°C**
- As soon as I put a load on the CPU (even just opening something or entering the BIOS), temperatures spike to **95-100°C.** Accessing the BIOS shows temps around **78-88°C.**
- The CPU thermal throttles rapidly.
- The heatsink feels barely warm, despite the CPU reporting those high temperatures
- The fans speed up appropriately.

**What I've tried so far:**
- I've re-mounted the Scythe Fuma 2 three times (check the thermal paste in my link).
- Re-seated the CPU.
- Checked CPU power limits
- Capped power limits to 65W, which drops temps but makes the CPU really slow at about 1.3GHz; still hitting 50-60°C at idle and 80-90°C under load.
- I tried undervolting by -0.06V, but that didn't solve it.

Has anyone else encountered these temperature issues with the i5-14600KF + ASUS B760 TUF setup? A friend suggested using a contact frame could help. What do you think? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yeah, that heatsink situation is troubling. If it’s barely warm and your CPU is reading those high temps, it could indicate bad heat transfer. Since you’ve re-mounted the cooler several times, it’s either an issue with the cooler itself or the way it’s being mounted (though your thermal paste looks fine from the pic).

That’s definitely not normal. I used a single tower cooler on my 14600KF during a hot season in Vietnam, and it didn’t reach those extremes. My cooler was hot to the touch while running demanding games, which suggests yours is not transferring heat properly. Maybe your cooler is faulty?

Welcome to the world of Intel chips! Once you’ve experienced this kind of heat issue, you might think twice about buying another one. Just saying!

Haha, I hear you! Unfortunately, I can't return this chip now.

It sounds like you've got a serious issue going on if your heatsink isn't even warm with those CPU temps! Try lowering your loadline calibration in the BIOS to level 1. I had similar overheating with my i5-14600K, and reducing it made a huge difference; my temps dropped from 100°C to about 80°C when pushing over 250W.

I switched my loadline to 0.5; I’ll see if that helps. Thanks for the tip!
