I just got promoted to lead support at my small company, and now I'm the go-to person whenever Slack or email gets overwhelming. Currently, we don't have a ticketing system in place, so everything is just scattered in Slack threads. Sometimes I forget things until someone reminds me a week later; it's total chaos! I know helpdesk software could streamline this, but with so many options, I'm lost. We have about 10 people in our team, and while the ticket volume isn't crazy yet, I can see it increasing soon. I'm looking for something that won't create extra overhead or require a PhD to manage. For those using helpdesk tools, what features do you like, and what should I avoid? How steep was the learning curve for your team, and did your customers notice any changes after implementing a system? Also, how long did it take you to set everything up? Any tips on making the process smoother would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Osticket is a great free option. My two-person team has been using it, and it keeps everything organized without being too complicated.
We’ve been using Halo PSA for about three years. It’s simple to set up and offers more customization than something like Zendesk. I highly recommend it if you want something flexible.
You could start with either Zendesk or Freshdesk. Just set up a support email like [email protected], and you should be good to go! Freshdesk is really user-friendly, and I've been using it for almost a decade without any need to switch.
GLPI is another free option, and I really like its asset management feature. It automates the inventory process, which is a huge time-saver.
I just checked GLPI, and it seems like it has a lot of features. Is it still free?
Yes, but some features may have a cost associated with them, depending on the configuration.
Consider Spiceworks or Freshdesk. They’re both free up to a point, have nice user portals, and you can set up email rules to forward tickets easily. I liked Spiceworks until they updated it, but Freshdesk seems to have better automation features now.

Yeah, I second that. Freshdesk has been super reliable and pretty straightforward. You won’t regret it!
