Help! My PC Can’t Find My Boot Drive After a Power Off

I have a bit of a nightmare scenario here—recently, I added a new drive to my PC, and since then, I've been experiencing some real issues. Sometimes, it would conflict with my other drives, leading to a blue screen when I booted up. I would have to go into BIOS and select the other drive to get Windows to start.

Yesterday, I shut down my PC without any problems. But today, when I turned it on, I was greeted with just a grey screen and couldn't access BIOS at all. After reseating components like the graphics card and RAM, I tried swapping out the SSD, and that seemed to work. However, now my boot drive seems to have vanished completely; my computer is saying, "no boot drive found!"

I've spent around nine hours trying to reinstall Windows and get everything up and running. I wiped an SSD and managed to get Windows installed on it, but whenever I connect my other SSD, it's not detected properly. It shows up in the SSD manager but gives me an error that says, "a device which does not exist was specified." After rescanning, it disappears entirely, and it's not showing in BIOS either. I've even changed the SATA cable and PSU cables, but I'm at a loss since everything was working fine just yesterday!

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating drive issue! It could certainly be a problem with the drive itself, but don't rule out the motherboard or CPU as culprits. Sometimes connectivity issues can stem from the motherboard malfunctioning, especially if it's intermittently recognizing drives. You might want to test the SSD on another machine if possible or look into replacing it if it's under warranty.

Why do you think it could be a CPU issue, though? That seems a bit unusual for a drive problem.
