Do I Really Have Malware or Is This Just a Scam?

I woke up to some notifications claiming I have various types of malware on my computer. When I clicked on the link, it directed me to a site that appeared to be legitimate. However, when I clicked 'renew now', it led to the official McAfee website. To be safe, I ran a quick scan with Windows Defender, and it reported no issues. I'm currently in the process of running a full scan just to be sure. Can anyone tell me whether this is a scam or if my computer is actually compromised? I'm using a Lenovo Yoga running Windows 11.

Those notifications are just typical scam popups. You probably allowed some sketchy site to send you notifications. I recommend checking your browser settings to manage those permissions.

I think I might have accidentally accepted some notifications from that site. Am I at risk since I clicked the links?

Yep, stay cautious! But if you ran a scan and it came back clean, you should be fine.

Anything that pops up and claims to find a virus but then asks for payment to fix it is almost always a scam. I remember one program that claimed to find thousands of viruses by counting cookies in your browser! Just be careful and stick with trusted antivirus software.

Thanks for confirming! I'll keep an eye out for those scams.
