Is My 750W PSU Good Enough for an RTX 3080?

I recently scored a great deal on a Palit RTX 3080 GamingPro 10GB but I'm a bit anxious about whether my PSU can handle it. I'm using a Bequiet System Power 10 750W, and I've seen it rated as tier E on the PSU tier list. This seems to be right at the minimum wattage requirement for the 3080. My other components include an MSI micro ATX B550M Pro VDH, a Ryzen 7 5700X, 32GB of RAM, a 2TB NVMe SSD, and a 4TB HDD. Any thoughts on whether my PSU can support this setup?

Honestly, I'd recommend getting a better PSU. I've had issues with my friend’s system using a lower-tier power supply, and it consistently shut off under load.

The RTX 3080 recommends at least a 500W PSU, so it sounds like you might be okay. Just make sure you’re not skimping on quality! If you're worried about reliability, consider an upgrade soon.

I get what you're saying! I had an RTX 2070 with that PSU and it worked fine, but I'm just not sure about the 3080.

Yeah, it's not just about wattage. The PSU has to manage power spikes correctly or it might shut down unexpectedly.

Your PSU should generally be fine for your setup. The RTX 3080 maxes out around 350W, and with your other components, you're looking at about 450W total, so there’s a little headroom. But still, a solid PSU is crucial for stability.

I'm currently running a 750W with my 5080. It works, but I wouldn't rely on that PSU for a long time.

You might want to think about upgrading to a 1000W PSU, especially if the rumors about the card's power spikes being high are true.

I've used a Corsair RM650x with my 3080 for two years without any problems. If you're anxious, undervolting might help; it can drop power usage significantly while maintaining performance.
