Can I use an 8x PCIe slot for a graphics card without any issues?

I'm curious about whether plugging my graphics card into an 8x PCIe slot instead of the standard 16x slot would cause any bottlenecks or performance issues. My graphics card is a 5060 Ti with 16GB GDDR7, designed for PCI Express 5.0. The motherboard I have is the Z390-AORUS-PRO-WIFI. According to the specs, the 16x slot can run at 8x when the 8x slot is populated, but I want to know if it will perform just as well on the 8x lane. The top PCIe slot seems a bit loose, and I feel more comfortable using the next slot that is more secure. Am I overthinking this?

Your motherboard is designed to support dual graphics cards and can split the lanes accordingly. Since the 5060 Ti operates at 8x by design, it’s perfectly normal for it to perform well on the 8x slot. I wouldn't worry too much about it!

Thanks for clarifying that! I feel better about my choice now.

The good news is that the 5060 Ti is designed to work perfectly fine on 8 lanes. In fact, many people run similar setups without noticing any performance issues. The lower tier graphics cards typically don’t require the full 16x bandwidth, so I think you’ll be just fine even if it’s running on an 8x slot.

That's a relief to hear! Thanks for the info!

Honestly, for your specific graphics card, using the 8x slot shouldn't bottleneck anything. The 5060 Ti is capable of running effectively at that speed, so you shouldn't experience any major issues. Just be cautious about the older motherboard, but overall, it should work well for gaming.
