I'm trying to install my 2TB WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD into a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO X3D motherboard. I heard it's best to use the top PCI slot for this, but when I attempt to secure the motherboard's heatsink, it doesn't fit over the SSD. Is there an easy fix for this—like removing screws to lower it—or should I just consider getting an M.2 SSD without a heatsink?

It sounds like you're trying to put both heatsinks on at once, which isn't how it's meant to work. You should just stick with the heatsink that came with your SSD and stash the motherboard heatsink somewhere safe. Alternatively, if you really want the motherboard's design, you could return the SSD and get one without a heatsink.
Thanks for the quick response! It’s been a while since my last build and I wasn’t sure.
Another option is to just remove the heatsink from the M.2 drive if you want to use the motherboard's heatsink instead. It might save you from buying a new SSD.
Thanks, I’ll definitely try that! I appreciate the help!

Yea, I was curious about that too!
