I'm trying to help my friend fix up his PC. Right now, he's struggling with a 128GB SSD that has only 1GB of space left, which is really bogging down the system. I'm planning to install a 500GB SSD solely for the operating system. I'd love to go with an 870 EVO because of its DRAM, but they're getting hard to find and priced around $100. The MX500 isn't available either. Can anyone suggest a decent SATA SSD that's more readily available and ideally costs around $50? It'll just be for a gaming PC, and unfortunately, M.2 isn't an option for him.

Honestly, getting a decent SATA SSD under that price is tough these days. But don’t lose hope—if you're okay with a used drive, you might find some hidden gems out there! Just make sure to check the seller's reputation.
One of the issues with the current market is the fluctuations in prices, especially with SSDs. It's crazy! Sometimes, they become unavailable just because of supply chain issues. Keep an eye on local deals or sales!
You might have some trouble finding a solid SSD for just $50. You could look into options like the BX500, but I’m not sure if that's reliable enough as an OS drive. Might be worth checking the used market for better deals!

Yeah, I’ve heard the BX500 can be hit or miss, but at least it’s available. You could also explore refurbished drives; they might fit your budget and still deliver good performance.
