Today, I noticed that Minecraft was running really slow, and when I checked the task manager, my CPU was maxed out at 100%. I thought that was odd, so I closed Minecraft and a few other applications like Steam. Even after doing that, my CPU usage kept jumping from 40% to 70%, and sometimes all the way back to 100%, only to drop to 0% moments later. I panicked a bit and ran a full virus scan with the built-in Windows security, but it came back clean. However, I'm still worried because even after a restart, the CPU spikes are ongoing with no specific application causing them. Sometimes it shows malware protection at 100%, then task manager, or other system processes. I don't know much about this stuff, and I hope I'm not overreacting, but if anyone has advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Edit: Thank you all for your help! It seems some sketchy files got quarantined after running Malwarebytes, and my PC is running much better now! You guys are the best! 🙌

First off, you should restart your computer if you haven’t already. After that, keep an eye on your CPU speed and temperature when those usage spikes happen. Overheating can cause your CPU to slow down, which would make lightweight applications use more CPU resources. This can happen due to software issues or hardware problems, so it's worth checking out.
Just so you know, malware typically doesn’t switch processes like that. It might actually be a Windows issue or something related to your hardware. It's worth considering if the spikes are random and happening across different applications.
Have you run a virus scan lately? It’s a good idea to double-check using some online tools or a reputable antivirus like Malwarebytes. Even if Windows says you’re clean, it doesn’t hurt to do another scan just to be sure!
