Can I Use Two Separate RAM Sticks to Achieve Dual Channel?

Hey everyone! I have a quick question related to RAM compatibility and whether two sticks can work in dual channel mode if they are purchased separately. Specifically, I'm considering getting two RAM sticks that are:

- From the same brand
- The same capacity (like 8GB each)
- The same speed (like 3200 MHz)
- Have identical timings and voltage

Given these conditions, will they run properly and activate dual channel on my motherboard? I know RAM kits are tested as a pair, but I'd love to hear if anyone has experience using identical sticks bought separately and what challenges I might face, if any. Thanks for the input!

They should run in dual channel as long as they POST successfully when installed. If both sticks fit in the right slots, dual channel is likely enabled. Expect that if they’re DDR4, they’ll run at the XMP speeds as well, really no issues there!

Most likely, yes! But keep in mind that mixing RAM can always be a bit of a gamble. It's not guaranteed to function perfectly for everyone, but many users have had success doing this.

Yeah, it should work fine! Just know that even sticks with the same model number might have slight differences that could affect performance. Generally, if you stick to the same specs you're in a good spot.

I've done something similar without facing problems, but there's always a risk involved. If you're looking at DDR3 speed and size, it might be worth checking if you can grab a matched pair for better stability if you run into any glitches later on.

Are you sure it's DDR4 though?

If I run one stick in single channel for a few months with a Ryzen 7 5700X and an MSI B550M Pro VDH motherboard, will it damage the CPU or motherboard?
