My organization previously used an email-to-text service for sending SMS alerts to staff about closures during bad weather, using a distribution group format. Unfortunately, this service is no longer functioning as carriers are shutting it down. We're looking for alternatives that would allow us to send text messages internally just a few times a year for emergencies. Twilio was suggested, but I'm confused about the A2P 10DLC registration process and the time it might take. I've created a free account but can't figure out how to test it. Is anyone using Twilio for internal communication? Also, I've seen the SMSEagle hardware solution mentioned—does it allow for immediate SMS sending without any registration, or is that still necessary?

Have you thought about just setting up a WhatsApp group? It could be a simpler alternative to SMS for quick communications.
Consider looking into Clicksend—it has an easy setup and a pay-as-you-go option, which is great for occasional use without heavy commitments.
We use the SMSEagle and it’s pretty user-friendly. You just need to pop in a SIM card, log into the web interface, enter the SIM pin, and you’re good to go. You can send SMS directly or set up an API key for more automated usage.
In the U.S., pretty much any automated SMS needs registration. It can be a hassle, but there's a good guide out there that breaks it all down if you want to check it out. It should help clear things up! Here's the link: https://www.notificationapi.com/blog/a2p-10dlc-registration-the-complete-developer-s-guide-2025
You'll definitely need to register if you opt for any automated SMS service, even for internal messaging. Getting a bulk message through without it is tough and could cause issues later on. Given that you’re only sending a few texts each year, it might be easier and more efficient to just have someone send group SMS manually instead of setting up a whole system. I've used Twilio and I can say the registration process isn’t cheap; we try to avoid messaging whenever we can to keep costs down.

Can you explain what "registering a campaign" involves? Is it a one-time thing or do we need to do it every time we send texts? The costs don’t seem too bad for under 100 users, but I’d like to know more.
