I've been dealing with awful internet speeds at my home in a major Australian suburb for years, especially in my old house. The wifi modem is located upstairs, and while I've tried using extenders downstairs, we still face constant disconnections that can last up to 15 minutes. This issue is particularly frustrating during gaming sessions on PlayStation where we experience rubber banding and latency problems. I've tested the connection speeds on my console, ranging from as low as 0.5 Mbps to as high as 80 Mbps. Unfortunately, there are no Ethernet ports in the house for a wired connection, so I'm looking for effective solutions. Should I consider better extenders, reposition the modem, or maybe something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you thought about switching to a mesh network instead of using wifi extenders? They tend to work better, especially if your walls are thick or made of concrete. You'll need to place the mesh nodes strategically throughout your house to ensure good coverage. For instance, if your router is in the upstairs bedroom, try placing one mesh unit halfway down the stairs and another on the main level.

What are the main differences between a mesh network and a wifi extender? It sounds like they serve similar purposes.
