How to Set Up a Two-Line Phone with Different Numbers?

I'm having trouble setting up my two-line home phone to work with both my regular landline number and a business number that is currently on a wireless home phone hub. I plug my regular landline directly into the phone jack, but I'm not sure how to connect the business number from the hub to the two-line phone so that I can keep the two numbers separate. Also, once I have this set up, I want to figure out how to forward my business calls to my husband's cell phone. I'm not very tech-savvy and this feels more complicated than it probably is. Any advice would be appreciated!

First things first, verify whether your two-line phone can actually handle a wireless number. Are you connecting the business line through a cordless phone? Generally, a two-line phone works if both lines are set up as separate analog lines. If the wireless hub only provides one line, that could be your issue. Ideally, you should have one line coming from the traditional landline into Line 1 of your new phone, and the wireless hub into Line 2, but that only works if the hub supports a second line. Once you sort that out, forwarding the business calls is usually something you'd set up with your phone carrier, not directly on the phone itself.

Home phone lines operate using two wires. For a two-line setup, you typically need the correct wiring configuration at the phone jack. The two middle wires in the jack usually correspond to the first line, while the second line would connect to different wires (black and yellow). But honestly, if you're just looking for an easy setup, it's best to speak with your phone service provider; they can walk you through how to get your phone set up correctly.

You're not overcomplicating things! Just to clarify, a two-line phone typically needs separate lines connected directly. If you’re using a wireless home phone hub that only delivers one line, it might not be able to separate them properly. So grab a traditional line and plug it into Line 1, and then see if the hub can connect to Line 2. If it can’t give you a distinct line, the two numbers won’t be separable on your phone. For call forwarding, that should be handled by your service provider, not the phone setup.
