I'm trying to upgrade my CPU from an i7-12700k to an i9-14900k on my Asus z690 plus wifi D4 motherboard. Before reinstalling the new CPU, I made sure to update the BIOS to the latest version from ASUS. However, when I booted up with the i9-14900k, there was no display, but the RGB lights turned on. I swapped back to the i7-12700k, and it booted up perfectly without any issues. I've reset the BIOS to factory defaults as suggested in another thread, but I'm wondering if there's something else I'm missing. I'm planning to do a clean install of the OS. Do I need to remove the RAM or GPU to get this to work?

It sounds like you've covered a lot of the basics. Just to confirm, you did check that your BIOS version is at least 2602 for full 14th Gen support, right? Sometimes it's easy to overlook minor details. A clean install might help too, but generally, seats should not be a problem unless you're having display issues. Have you tried reseating the CPU just to be sure?
Make sure all your power connections are secured, particularly the CPU power connectors. It might help to try booting with only one RAM stick to eliminate any RAM-related issues before you dig deeper into the clean install. Also, ensure your motherboard is compatible with the new chip; it should be, but confirming can save you headaches.
Definitely check those connections! A loose cable can cause all sorts of headaches. Reducing to one stick of RAM is also a smart troubleshooting step.

Good point! Always worth reseating it to ensure proper contact. And yeah, double-checking the BIOS version is crucial; sometimes that's the root of the problem!
