Should I buy a new PC or just upgrade my current one?

I'm hitting a wall with some new games and having to dial down my graphics settings. I'm considering my options to boost my system for better gaming performance. I'm planning to play titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Expedition 33, and Baldur's Gate 3, and I'm specifically thinking about upgrading to a GeForce 5080. But I'm unsure if just getting a new GPU is the best move. Here are my current specs:
- Intel i7-12700K
- 16GB DDR4 SDRAM
- GeForce 3070 Ti 8GB
- 1TB SSD

If you have the budget, a new PC could be a solid choice, but it really depends on what you can upgrade with your current setup. I'm not sure how much you could improve with just swapping components.

I’d recommend bumping your RAM to 32GB if you can, paired with a GPU upgrade. I’d go for the 5070 Ti or 9070 XT. But I checked and 32GB DDR4 is quite pricey! If you’re only replacing your 16GB stick, is it worth that cost?

What resolution and settings are you playing at? The 3070 Ti is already quite capable. Have you tried using DLSS at quality or balanced settings? There are some great tips from YouTubers that show how to boost FPS dramatically just by tweaking your settings. I have the same GPU and have gotten great results at 1440p with just a few adjustments! But if you want to push for maximum settings without compromise, then yeah, upgrading might be the way to go. If your budget allows, maybe the 5070 Ti is the way to go, but a full new AM5 build would be fantastic if you're ready to go big.

Thank you for the suggestions! I noticed a significant difference going from ultra to the next level down in Horizon Forbidden West, so I'm leaning towards a new card.

You might want to look at getting a 5070 Ti or 9070 XT, as they offer better bang for your buck unless you're really after that top-tier power. Your CPU should be fine if you're playing at a higher resolution.

With your specs, a 9070 XT would fit in nicely. Just upgrading the GPU could do the trick, no need to overhaul everything right now.
