Best Laptop Choices for Arch Linux Users

I'm currently facing some issues with my Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 after installing Arch Linux. The trackpad doesn't work with my desktop environment, and I've heard there are some kernel driver problems. I'd like to find a laptop that would be better for learning Arch without too many setbacks. I prefer laptops with an all-metal shell, so I'm considering options like the ROG Zephyrus or a MacBook. I'm also open to either dual-booting or completely replacing the existing OS with one or more Linux distributions. What do you all think would be the best choice? Or should I consider something like the XPS instead? Am I overthinking this?

The ThinkPad is your best bet. I have the IdeaPad Flex 5, and while the trackpad works with my model, I know newer versions have a plastic frame, which you want to avoid. Go for the ThinkPad for a fully metal option!

I recently got a ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen10 Aura Edition, and it's just fantastic for Linux. Plus, it's got that premium metal build quality you're looking for!

If you're willing to invest, check out Tuxedo or Star Labs laptops; they’re built specifically for Linux users and are worth the price if you need top-tier performance.

Consider a Dell Precision; they’re great machines for Linux users and usually have solid support for it. You might find it aligns with what you need!

I picked up an HP EliteBook 8 G1i 14 and it runs Arch beautifully. It’s got modern hardware, though it was a bit pricey—under $2k, but it's powerful and reliable!

For a good Linux experience, you should focus on business laptops like XPS, Inspiron, ThinkPad, or ZBook. The Zephyrus is decent, but ASUS doesn't really prioritize Linux support. I recommend checking out reviews on the Arch Wiki or YouTube to identify any potential issues and workarounds. There might even be a fix for your IdeaPad's trackpad, so definitely look into that!

If you're looking for a reliable option, just go with a ThinkPad. They’re known to work exceptionally well with Linux, and I’ve heard they’re even the only laptops used on the International Space Station!
