Is a PCIe 3.0 x8 Slot Enough for a 5060 Ti GPU?

I recently upgraded to a 5060 Ti 16GB Eagle graphics card, replacing my old 5700 XT, and I'm using it with an R5 3600 CPU on a B450F Gaming motherboard. The GPU operates on a PCIe x8 channel, and I'm curious about how much this might impact performance. I've read some sources online that suggest the large 16GB of VRAM should mitigate any issues, but I'm still concerned since PCIe 3.0 feels quite outdated. Can anyone provide insights on how significant the performance loss might be or if I should consider upgrading my motherboard?

You're likely to experience a little drop in FPS with a PCIe 3.0 x8 setup, especially in demanding scenarios. Upgrading to a PCIe 4.0 motherboard could help unlock better performance, but decent B450 boards are pretty budget-friendly. It's worth considering!

Thanks for the tip! I heard from someone else that older BIOS versions might let my board support PCIe 4. I’m just worried whether using an older BIOS might affect stability.

Your CPU does support PCIe 4, but AMD restricted it on your motherboard mainly to push higher-end boards. If you flash an older BIOS that predates that restriction, you might enable PCIe 4, although it's unclear if it will fully work on your x16 slot since this was designed for multi-GPU setups. In general terms, it shouldn't be a huge drawback anyway.

Should I just opt for that older BIOS then? I'm still weighing whether the 5060 Ti is the right choice or if I should go for a 9070 or 5070 instead.

Thanks a lot for the info, by the way!

Thinking about upgrading to a 5700X3D for around $200, do you think that’s better than upgrading to a 5070 or 9070?

As long as you stay within the VRAM limits, the performance drop should be pretty minimal. Since you have 16GB, it looks like you won't hit the limits often, so it shouldn't be too much of a concern with your current setup.

That’s reassuring! I thought I understood it when I made the purchase, but watching videos online started to make me doubt.
