I'm using Ubuntu 25.10, and I've been experiencing eye strain from looking at documents with white backgrounds. I'm wondering if there's a way to change the background color to something more comfortable for my eyes. Is this possible, and if so, how can I do it?

Make sure you're considering what type of documents you're working with. Different applications handle background settings differently. For example, you might want to look into settings in LibreOffice or each specific text editor to adjust their background color preferences. It's not always a universal option.

It really depends on the app you're using. If you're just looking for a document viewer, check if your application has a night mode that changes the background color to gray or black. If you want to set a system-wide option, unfortunately, that may not be available.

Ubuntu typically runs on the GNOME desktop environment, which uses Evince as the default document viewer. You can find a feature called "Night Mode" in Evince's menu, which inverts the colors so the background turns black and the text is white. This helps reduce glare and may ease your eye strain.
