Once I've finished installing Bazzite, I'm wondering if I need to update my BIOS settings to boot from my operating system instead of keeping the removable device as the first option. What do you recommend?

I'd suggest keeping the removable device as your first boot option for now. If there's no removable device plugged in, your system will just skip it and boot normally from your OS.
Thanks for your input! Just to clarify, should I unplug the thumb drive right before I reboot, or leave it in?
You can unplug it if you want, but leaving it in shouldn't cause any issues either since it'll just skip it if no bootable device is found.
