Do I Need a New Power Supply for My Upgraded PC?

I've recently upgraded my gaming PC and I'm experiencing some shutdown issues during gameplay. Here are my specs before and after the upgrade: I started with a Ryzen 7 3700X and an EVGA 2080 Super powered by an EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3 PSU. Now, I've upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, EVGA FTW3 ULTRA GAMING LE RTX 3080ti, and increased my RAM to 32GB. I'm wondering if my power supply can handle the new load since my computer randomly shut off during games like Space Marines 2, compiling shaders for The Finals, and Alan Wake 2. I've run tests on my RAM and CPU without any issues, so I'm thinking it could be either a GPU or PSU problem. I would appreciate any advice on what to test next or recommendations for a PSU brand and wattage!

You might need a higher wattage PSU. The default power limit for the RTX 3080ti is about 400W, which doesn’t leave much for your CPU and other components.

I'm really stuck between whether the PSU wattage or the GPU temps are causing the issues. I'm hesitant to test too much to avoid damaging anything.

Remember, with 400W for the GPU and around 105W for the CPU, you still have some room for the motherboard and peripherals, so overheating on the GPU could be the culprit.

It sounds like you should still be within the acceptable TDP range, so it might not be the PSU unless it's failing. Have you considered reapplying thermal paste on your 3080ti? Those cards can run pretty hot, and old thermal paste can lead to overheating.

I got the 3080ti secondhand, and it does run hot. I cleared out some dust, but the thermal pads look old. Any recommendations for thermal paste or pads?

Definitely check those thermals – overheating could be the reason for the shutdowns!
