I'm trying to find solutions to cut down the login times for our computers in a fast-paced workplace. We're facing challenges because we can't use Kiosk Mode or Multi App Kiosk Mode due to lack of session persistence, which makes it difficult to keep the computers secure from unauthorized access. Staff are often moving between workstations, and if someone logs out or if a PC is rebooted, it leads to delays. Our setup consists of four main applications: a Browser, Citrix, and a couple of others. I've already removed all GPOs and switched to Intune for deployment. What can I do to make logging in faster and more efficient?

How long does a login take currently? Knowing your starting point can help define your target. If you're at 30 seconds to a minute, aiming for under 10 seconds is a solid goal to pursue!
Getting rid of GPOs may not be the best approach. How long were they taking to apply? If it was around 10 seconds, that might still be manageable!
It sounds like you need a solution more tailored to your environment. Something that allows for fast logins like using PIV or smartcard authentication could help. Once set up, the first login might take longer, but subsequent logins would be super quick, averaging about 5 seconds.
True! I've seen a similar setup work effectively in healthcare settings.
One solution you might want to consider is Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) or some sort of virtualization. This way, users can have their sessions maintained, and you just need to make sure the right person logs into the right session. It could greatly speed up the process!
We've thought about VDI but the costs are quite high, and the higher-ups aren't keen on anything that isn't local.
Have you thought about using Mandatory Profiles? They can give a kiosk-like experience without a generic login, which could streamline things for your users. Check this link for more info on how to set it up.
To really get to the bottom of these login delays, figuring out what the root cause is essential. Have you tried running Windows Performance Recorder or Procmon during startup to log anything unusual?
Have you looked into Imprivata Onesign? It's designed for environments like healthcare where quick logins are crucial. You can set it up as a kiosk while providing secure authentication with options like Face ID or proximity cards to speed things up even more.
I totally second this! I've installed many systems in hospitals, and while it's an investment, the benefits really outweigh the costs when it comes to secure desktop solutions.
Make sure your budget is large enough for it, but it could be the breakthrough you're looking for.
How about having an auto login script for a dummy user? It would get the computer ready for use without exposing sensitive information. It’s a bit unconventional, but it could help with those early morning scenarios.

Yes, exactly! We're trying to get it down to about 5 to 10 seconds max.
