Why won’t my USB WiFi adapter detect my WiFi extender or phone hotspot?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my USB WiFi adapter. It can see every nearby WiFi network, except for the WiFi extender I'm using, which is necessary for me since I'm far from the router I'm currently borrowing. I can connect to the extender with my phone without any problem, and it's set to a 2.4GHz band, so that's not the issue. I've also tried using my phone as a hotspot, but my adapter isn't picking that up either, and that's also on the 2.4GHz band. I'm completely stumped as to why my adapter isn't recognizing either of these connections. I don't have the specifications for the adapter, but it's an older model, so I suspect it's not very capable. Any thoughts?

Have you checked to see if your adapter only operates on the 5GHz band? Sometimes older adapters are limited in what they can detect and might not pick up certain 2.4GHz signals.

I didn't save the cover, but it does find other 2.4GHz networks around me.
