Is 32GB RAM enough for running multiple virtual machines?

Hey everyone! I'm currently studying computer science and I plan to run several virtual machines for my practice and labs. Right now, my laptop has 16GB of RAM, which is a dual 8GB setup, and I'm considering upgrading it. I'm not entirely sure if I should go for 32GB or jump to 64GB for optimal performance. I really want a smoother experience without spending too much if 64GB is overkill. What do you all think? Will 32GB suffice for my future needs? I want to keep this laptop going for a few more years. Thanks for your insights!

Also, check how many RAM slots you have. If you have two slots filled with 8GB each, you could just add a single 32GB stick, making it 40GB in total. That could be a good compromise!

I actually have 4 slots in total! So I’m good on that front.

It really depends on the requirements of the virtual machines you'll be using. If they’re lightweight, then 32GB should do the trick. But if you plan to run heavier applications, you might want to consider 64GB down the line. Just make sure to evaluate how many VMs you’ll run at once and their individual RAM needs.
