What Happens If I Accidentally Plug a PSU into the Front Panel Connectors?

So here's my situation: I was in a bit of a rush and totally forgot about the small front panel connectors. I accidentally plugged my power supply, which I know works, into the front panel area of my motherboard where those tiny connectors go. Once I realized my mistake, I tried a different power supply that I think is good, but now nothing lights up—no fans, no noise, nothing at all. I'm wondering, if the motherboard was damaged, would I see any response from the power supplies? Could I have fried the power button headers? Or is it possible that the PSU itself is fried? I do have an RMA request ready for the motherboard if I can't get this sorted out.

Yikes! It sounds like a messy situation. If you got no spin at all, it's a bad sign, but not necessarily a death sentence for your motherboard or PSU. Sometimes, just resetting everything can bring things back. Maybe disconnect everything, remove the motherboard from the case, and try powering it on with only essential components. This might help you pinpoint the problem without risking more damage.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a shot and see if I can at least get a response before sending anything back.

So, you plugged your PSU into the wrong pins on the motherboard, right? That's definitely not good! If the motherboard is damaged, you're right—typically there wouldn’t be any signs of life from the power supply. You could have fried the headers for the power button, which might explain why nothing's happening now. That said, it's also possible that your power supply took the hit instead. Have you tried testing the power supply on another setup or using a multimeter to check if it's working? That might help narrow it down!

Yeah, double-checking the PSU elsewhere is a solid idea. If it works on another board, then your motherboard could be the issue.
