I've just got a new laptop and am excited to switch to Linux Mint! I've never installed or used Linux before but don't need anything from my Windows setup, not even Microsoft Office. Honestly, I just browse the web and occasionally watch YouTube or stream sports on Paramount. Since I don't have any important files to save, I'm wondering if I should make a Windows image backup first or if I can just dive right into Linux Mint. What do you all think?

The main reason to create a disk image is to avoid issues like not having a license key if you decide to return to Windows later. If you don’t want to go back, then you can just format it once you feel settled with Linux.
Try using VirtualBox to test out Linux first! That way, you can explore and see if there's anything you miss. If after a couple of weeks you feel good about it, you can then wipe the drive and fully dive in.
If you're simply trying out Linux, I'd say it’s a good idea to make an image of your drive. But if you're sure you want to switch permanently, you can skip the backup. There are plenty of great Linux distros that should suit your needs—finding the right one is key!
Having a backup is always a smart move. You never know when you might need it. I'd suggest at least creating a Windows installer USB using the media creation tool, just in case something goes wrong down the road.
If there's nothing important on your Windows setup, just go ahead and wipe it for Linux. The only concern is if you end up not liking Linux and want to revert. But I think you'll really enjoy it!
Thanks for the encouragement! I'm excited to explore Linux.

That makes sense! I've been doing a lot of reading on Linux and I feel pretty confident I'll enjoy it.
