Do Vertical GPU Mounts Affect CPU Temperatures?

I've been curious about whether mounting a GPU vertically has any effect on CPU temperatures. I've come across mixed opinions; some say it can increase temperatures, while I'm wondering if it might actually reduce CPU temps. Has anyone tried it? I'd love any data or experiences you can share regarding this setup.

You need to understand case airflow fundamentals more than anything. Testing different setups in your own system is key. In general, if your components can get fresh, cool air, they’ll perform better!

Mounting a GPU vertically doesn't inherently change temperatures by itself. What really matters is how the fans are positioned. If the GPU fans end up against a solid surface like a case panel, that could restrict airflow and raise temps. But in a setup with an open panel or good clearance, it shouldn't impact temperatures much at all.

Want cooler temps? Try directing outside air to your GPU and CPU. Ducting cold air effectively can outperform many water cooling setups. Just make sure to also manage the air moving through your motherboard since there are plenty of hot components there too.

Absolutely! One of my best setups had a duct leading straight out. But honestly, if I were to build again, I'd consider an open or wall-mounted setup instead for optimal airflow.

I’ve heard some claims that it can raise overall case temperatures due to airflow issues, which could mean your CPU temps stay the same or even rise slightly. In many instances, it may not help at all, or it might even be detrimental.

It's tough to give a definite answer because it really depends on the specifics of your case and the fan placements. In some cases, vertical GPU mounts can lower both CPU and GPU temps, while in others they might have the opposite effect. The best way to find out would be to run A/B tests with your setup.
