Why is my laptop adjusting brightness based on screen content?

I'm really frustrated because my laptop has started automatically lowering the brightness when there's dark content on the screen, like during gaming or when using Steam. I've spent over an hour searching for solutions related to HDR settings, adaptive brightness, and various settings in the control panel, but nothing seems to work. Plus, the brightness slider at the bottom right is greyed out and I can't adjust it manually. Can anyone provide some guidance?

It sounds like Content Adaptive Brightness is causing the issue. You might want to check if that's enabled. It's a feature that adjusts your screen brightness based on the content displayed. It’s usually found in the display settings or power options.

This could also be related to software installed by your laptop manufacturer that affects brightness settings. Sometimes, the default settings will adapt to what's on screen independent of HDR. Look through any software you've got from the manufacturer—it might lead you to a solution.
