Help! My new 9070XT isn’t performing as well as my old RTX 3070

I recently upgraded to a 9070XT from an RTX 3070, expecting a significant performance boost. However, I'm noticing that my 3070 is still outperforming my new card in FPS games. For instance, I was getting a solid 120 FPS in Warzone and over 300 FPS in Valorant, but now it's more like an unstable 240 FPS on Valorant. I suspect my CPU might be bottlenecking, but since I'm on an AM4 socket, I'm unsure how to proceed. I play on a 1440p 240Hz monitor, and I'm considering returning the 9070XT to Microcenter. Here are my specs: 9070XT, R7 5800X, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, and an 850W PSU.

This shouldn't be happening at all! Make sure to use DDU to completely remove any Nvidia drivers before installing AMD's. Also, are you keeping the same settings in your games? If you were using DLSS on the 3070, remember that your 9070XT won't have that feature, so using FSR instead might be necessary. Just keep in mind that you should check if you're using the latest settings to match what you had before!

I had no idea I needed to uninstall old drivers, thanks for the tip! I don’t use any upscaling features like FSR or DLSS because they add input delay for me.

Have you run DDU yet? It’s crucial when changing GPU brands. Also, double-check that XMP is enabled for your memory, because it could affect your performance too. Sometimes those settings can get reset during a hardware swap.

It sounds like you might have a driver conflict going on. Did you use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) before switching to the 9070XT? That could help clear out any leftover Nvidia drivers that might be messing with performance. The 9070XT should definitely outperform the 3070 when everything is set up correctly!
