PC Randomly Shutting Down: What’s Causing It?

I've got an AMD Ryzen R7 3800XT setup with an ASUS Strix B450-E motherboard and a GTX 1080 Ti GPU. Recently, my PC has started shutting down unexpectedly, often just after booting or within a few minutes of use, even when I'm not taxing the system. It sometimes refuses to boot unless I cycle the power supply—turning it off and on while waiting for the GPU power lights to shut off. After it boots, it can be stable for a while, but it will suddenly shut off again, even during simple tasks like shutting down. This system is about 5 years old and has been used lightly, with a fresh install of Windows 11 just a week ago. I've tested components for stability, and temps seem fine, so I'm suspecting it might be the power supply. I've already ordered a new PSU, but worst case, I might be looking at motherboard issues. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

It sounds like your RAM might be unstable. Have you tried dropping the RAM clock speed by 200 MHz? It could help with the random shutdowns since those timings are pretty tight for an AMD chipset.

That’s worth a shot! I really stress tested this RAM when I built the PC, and it was stable. But that was a while ago, so maybe things have changed. It might be tricky, though, since I can't even boot right now.

Honestly, I think the issue might be with your PSU. It doesn't seem to like cooler temperatures, which can point to a failing unit. Since you've already ordered a new one, hopefully, that will solve your problems.
