I'm trying to connect my gaming laptop to an All-in-One (AIO) computer that I recently got from my mom. My goal is to use the AIO as a second display for a split screen setup. I initially connected them using a USB-C and HDMI cable, but I realized that the AIO is actually a computer, not just a monitor. I want to find a way to connect them without needing another monitor or TV. Any guidance on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, most AIOs can’t be used as a second monitor since both your laptop and the AIO are output devices. If your AIO has an HDMI input, then you're in luck! If not, you might have to settle with casting or mirroring apps for now. Those solutions can help, even though they don’t give you a true monitor setup.
It really depends on the make and model of your AIO. Some do have HDMI input ports while others don’t. Most older models typically don't support this feature. Without knowing your model, it’s tough to give a definitive answer. If you’re up for it, check the back of your AIO for any HDMI-IN ports or consult the user manual. Let us know what you find, and we can help further!
I checked, and there’s an HDMI port, but I'm not sure if it’s an input or output.
If it’s HDMI-OUT, then you can’t connect the two that way. You’d need to look for HDMI-IN to use it as a monitor.
Most All-in-One (AIO) computers can't be connected as second monitors to another computer, but there are a few options you can try. First, check if your AIO has an HDMI input port. If it does, you can connect it directly with an HDMI cable and switch the input source as you would with a regular monitor. However, this is quite rare.
If that doesn't work, you can use your AIO as a wireless second monitor with Windows 10 or 11. Just go to the settings on the AIO, enable projecting to this PC, and on your laptop, press Win + K to extend the display to your AIO. This works fine for casual tasks, but be warned that there might be some lag, especially for gaming or video editing.
For a more stable connection, consider software solutions like Spacedesk, which allows you to use your AIO with a good network connection. These approaches can help you get the most out of your setup!
Try software solutions like Spacedesk for a wireless option. It won't be as fast as a direct connection, but as long as you have a solid network, it can work pretty well for basic tasks. Just install the necessary apps on both computers and follow the setup instructions. This could be your best bet!

Sounds like I'll have to look into casting options. Thanks for the advice!
