Is the RTX 5070 a Good Choice for a First-Time PC Building Experience?

I'm building my first PC and I'm thinking about getting the RTX 5070. I've already got a PS5 Pro, so I've enjoyed most of the 4K titles I'm interested in on that console. My main goal is to play PC-exclusive games or those not available on consoles.

While I'd like to run some games at 4K 60fps occasionally (with or without DLSS), it's not my primary focus. I just want to make sure that I won't be disappointing myself if I decide to try 4K gaming on PC.

I've heard mixed reviews about the 5070, with some saying it's underwhelming, so I'm curious: is it really that bad? Or is it actually a decent GPU for someone not chasing ultra settings but still wanting solid performance and some level of future-proofing? Any thoughts or advice would be really helpful!

From a generational upgrade standpoint, the 5070 might feel underwhelming. However, if you need a GPU now, it's often one of the best mid-high end options available. You can get a decent 4K gaming experience with optimized settings and DLSS, and it's quite a bit more powerful than your PS5 Pro.

I’ve been using a 5070 and play at 4K60 on a TV with ultra settings and DLSS without any issues. It’s a fantastic card overall! I upgraded from a 1070 and paired it with a good CPU, which definitely helps. Don't let the hate for the 5070 discourage you.

Remember that consoles typically don't deliver true 4K like a PC can. They often use lower quality textures to save on VRAM and lower graphics settings overall. While some say the 5070 isn't great for 4K because it lacks the power for high settings or ray tracing, it's still a solid card. If you're transitioning from consoles, you might be used to that 'lesser' 4K experience. Plus, the 5070 is significantly more powerful than a PS5 Pro!

Honestly, the 5070 Ti might be worth considering for you. But the RX 9070 is a better value if you're looking at staying worry-free and having good performance without technical hiccups.

My friend moved from a GTX 1070 to an RTX 5070, and they really like it! I switched to an RX 9070xt, which I think is better value, but both cards perform well. One thing to keep in mind: on a 27" monitor, the difference between 1440p and 4K isn't super noticeable. Playing at 1440p ultra settings might give you a better experience, unless you're using a really big monitor.
