I recently built a budget-friendly desktop after selling my previous high-end rig. Right now, I'm using a Ryzen 5600 paired with a 9060XT and 32GB of RAM, mainly gaming at 1440p. With the rising RAM prices and some concerns about future games needing more cores, I'm wondering if an upgrade to either the Ryzen 5700X or 5700X3D would be beneficial. I can sell my 5600 for around €100, and the 5700X costs about €150 while the 5700X3D is around €350, which feels a bit steep. Are these upgrades worth it, considering gaming performance and longevity?

It's probably not worth upgrading right now. At 1440p, the differences between the 5600 and the newer CPUs minimize, especially with the current high prices of the X3D chip. Your current build is well-balanced; stick with it for at least another couple of years.
Unless you find a great deal on a 5700X3D, keeping the 5600 sounds like the best option. Prices are crazy for those upgrades right now, and you have a good setup as it is.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother upgrading just yet. The 5600 is a solid CPU and can handle games quite well, especially at 1440p. Instead of spending money on a slight CPU upgrade, you might want to invest in a better GPU like the 9070XT or 5070TI, which could give you a much more noticeable performance boost.
Totally agree! I’ve been using a 5600 and it works perfectly fine for gaming, even with a 5070TI. Just waiting for the right moment to upgrade myself.
I say stick with the 5600 for now. It's still a really good CPU for gaming. I use mine with a 5070TI for 1440p as well, and I haven't had any issues. If you're aiming for longevity, holding off until prices drop or there's a better deal makes sense.
Glad to hear it! I'm also rotating between different resolutions and I noticed that higher resolutions indeed put less stress on the CPU.
Before you decide to upgrade, check your CPU and GPU usage during gaming. If you’re not hitting CPU bottlenecks, then upgrading might just be throwing money away. GPU upgrades usually deliver much more noticeable performance improvements.
That’s a great point! I picked the 9060XT mainly for pricing as I’m not gaming heavily. I think I’ll stick with what I have for now.

Exactly my thoughts! The 5600 is staying put for me.
