Feeling Stuck After 2 Years of Fullstack Learning—What Should I Do?

I started learning to code in 2024, but now, at the end of 2025, I don't have any real projects to showcase my skills, especially in MERN and fullstack development. I've spent most of my time watching tutorials and copying projects without creating anything useful myself. It's frustrating to see others posting their work and feeling guilty for not doing the same. I realize I've been caught up in thinking and planning but never took action. Now, I want to hold myself accountable and plan to document my learning journey through videos and text. Do you think documenting my process is a good idea, or should I focus solely on coding? I want to build momentum and prove to myself that I can do this.

You absolutely can document your journey! It will help you in many ways. Happy to connect if you want to exchange thoughts!

Honestly, don't learn to code just for the sake of it! Try to find something in your daily life that needs improving and build something to solve that. Document your journey however you like, but don't overthink it. Remember, programming is just a tool—focus on creating solutions.

Agreed! Building something for your own problems is much more rewarding than just aiming for a portfolio.

Check out the cloud resume project—it's a solid project idea. Just be careful not to rely too much on tutorials; use them for guidance but try to resolve sections on your own. It worked wonders for my interview prep!

Interesting! I haven't heard of this project. What's it about?

Instead of getting caught up in write-ups, focus on completing your fullstack project end-to-end. Once it's functional, then optimize it and share your learnings. Writing notes for yourself is great! Documenting externally might slow you down if you’re not careful.

That makes sense! Focusing on building is the priority.

I can relate to struggling to create a portfolio. Writing a blog or technical write-ups could be a great way to showcase your knowledge. Even though I specialize in backend, it's helpful for visibility.

Definitely write! It will deepen your understanding and also give you visibility.

But before starting a blog, consider what you really want to teach. Maybe finish a project first, then write about it!
