Is a 2TB NVMe SSD for $200 a Smart Buy?

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop storage just in time for the holidays. Currently, I have a 500GB Gen4 NVMe drive in my Gigabyte G6 KF, but it's absolutely not enough for my gaming library. I originally planned to buy a 1TB NVMe, assuming they would be around $50 to $100, but I'm seeing prices starting at $180. However, I stumbled upon a WD SN750 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD priced at $200. The 1TB SSD options are nearly the same price at about $195. I want to know if this is a good deal or if I should wait for potential price drops. Can anyone share their thoughts?

It’s not the absolute best deal I've seen. You could pick up a Samsung 990 EVO 2TB for around $160 at Best Buy, but that doesn’t help if you’re not near one.

Unfortunately, Best Buy isn't in my area at all. I live outside the US!

Honestly, $200 for a 2TB NVMe isn't a bad deal at all, especially considering the 1TB options are almost the same price. Storage prices don't really drop dramatically anymore, so if you're in need of the space for your games and don’t want to deal with the slower speeds of external drives, I'd say go for it!

Yeah, the other 2TB models are hitting like $270+, and this one at $200 seems like a steal! I was concerned it might be a subpar model or that prices just haven’t caught up yet.

Right now, the cheapest price for a 2TB NVMe M.2 is around $175. Just a little while ago, it was going for about $125 before all the price hikes. Considering the current market, $200 is an acceptable price for that 2TB drive, but who knows if prices will eventually dip again down the line.

If you really need the storage, just go for it! No one can really predict when the PC component prices will stabilize, so if you see a deal now, it might be worth grabbing it.

I really needed to hear that, thanks!
