I'm trying to help my friend upgrade their storage by adding a Crucial M.2 SSD since they're running low on space. The problem is I'm confused about the information on the motherboard. It mentions that it 'supports NVMe SSD as boot disks', but does that mean we can only use it to boot from, or can we also utilize it just for extra storage?

I've got this motherboard paired with an Intel i5-9400 and I've had no issues using NVMe for storage. Just make sure to set it correctly in the BIOS if you decide to make it a boot drive later, but it works great just as extra space right away!
Just a heads up, the BIOS is what handles drive access when booting. Windows supports NVMe drives regardless of how you use them, so you’re totally good to use it for storage without worrying about booting from it.
It’s pretty clear that the motherboard supports NVMe SSDs for booting, but you can definitely use it just for storage too! The wording can be a bit confusing, but it doesn’t mean you’re restricted to only booting from it.

Exactly! As long as the motherboard has the slot available, you should be able to use the NVMe SSD for additional storage without it being a boot drive.
