I'm considering upgrading my system to keep it relevant for the next 5-10 years, especially with rumors that RAM may become harder to find due to the AI demand. Right now, I have a Ryzen 5700X3D, ASUS X570 motherboard, 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM, and an RTX 5070TI. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 9800X3D with 32GB DDR5-6000 and an MSI X870E motherboard. I do some mid-level FPS gaming at 2K resolution, along with general tasks like word processing, music, Zoom meetings, and web browsing. I can afford the upgrade, but I'm not sure if it's worth it versus waiting for AM6 in a couple of years. Any thoughts on this?

Honestly, your current setup is already pretty solid! AM6 isn't expected until at least 2028, and AM5 will still be supported until well into the 2030s. If I were you, I'd stick with AM4 for now and then look at moving to AM5 once RAM prices drop.
I’ve got a similar setup and I'm waiting too! The Ryzen 5700X3D has plenty of life left. Hardware prices always go up and down; just wait for a better deal. Maybe in a year or two, more people will be offloading their gear as they upgrade. You’ll find cheaper options then!
Exactly! I think it's best to wait a bit longer.
No real need to upgrade! Your system handles mid-level gaming just fine. Don't fall for that fear of missing out. Prices are inflated right now due to speculation, not just AI.
With a Ryzen 5700X3D, you've got more than enough power for the next few years. Just hold out for AM6 if you can!
Honestly, the whole future-proofing thing can be a trap. DDR6 is gonna come out sooner than you think! 32GB is plenty for most tasks and gaming right now.
Yeah, I read about AI companies hogging chip resources too. Prices are just nuts right now.
Right? It's all a bit of a scam with these inflated prices.

That makes sense! Buying used is a great way to save money. I'll keep an eye out in the second-hand market.
