How Do I Get Started with Installing CachyOS on My Mini PC?

I'm diving into the world of Linux and want to get CachyOS up and running on a mini PC I picked up. My goal is to get comfortable with Linux before I transition my main computer to something like Mint or Zorin. I've got an M.2 drive that I'd like to install CachyOS on, but I understand that I need to format it first so that Windows can recognize it for transferring the ISO. I believe I need to format it to ext4 for compatibility with Linux, but Windows doesn't see that format. How can I format the drive to ext4, and what tools should I use to do this? I'd really appreciate any pointers to help me get started!

Check out the documentation on creating installation media for CachyOS—it’s super helpful! Once you’ve made the USB stick bootable, just select it in your boot options when powering on your PC. No need for Windows to recognize it beforehand! Also, a little tip: you can try running many Linux distributions directly from the USB without installing them first. If you decide to go for an install, follow the setup instructions on the CachyOS wiki for guidance.

You might be a bit confused here—no need to format the drive before you install! Just create a bootable USB with Rufus or similar software. The installation process will handle the formatting and partitioning of your drive. If you're coming from Windows, Mint is a solid choice since it has a user-friendly interface.

For making the bootable USB, consider using Ventoy; it’s quite versatile! Simply drop your ISO files onto it, and you can boot from any of them. But if you’re more inclined towards a straightforward approach, Rufus is great too—lots of tutorials available online. Stick with Mint or Zorin if you're looking for an easy transition from Windows. But remember, focus on functionality over aesthetics!
