Why does my laptop slow down when it’s plugged in?

I have an HP Laptop 15-dy2073 that's been running Windows 11. It's about 3 years old, and everything was fine until today. Now, the moment I plug it in, it slows down to a crawl, but when I unplug it, it runs smoothly. I've tried a different charger and set my power mode to 'best performance' all the time, but nothing seems to help. I've also watched some tutorials, but the settings they're showing me don't match what I see on my laptop. I'm pretty new to tech and could really use some guidance on how to fix this issue!

You might want to check your power settings. There are usually profiles that let you manage how your laptop performs when it's plugged in versus running on battery. It's strange that it's slowing down while charging, which shouldn't really happen. Sometimes, other users might mess with those settings, so it's worth a look.

It sounds like your power plans could be messed up. Your laptop should actually perform better when it's plugged in, but right now it seems to be throttling instead. I recommend resetting your power plans to default. You can search online for instructions on how to do that for Windows 11.

I tried resetting the power plans, but unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem.
