My Screen Went Black Unexpectedly – How Can I Prevent This in the Future?

Today, my HP laptop unexpectedly started lagging, and then the screen went completely black. I tried using various keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + Alt + Delete and Win + Shift + B, but nothing worked. While messing around with the shortcuts, I might have enabled a feature called ease of access, since I heard a message indicating that. It seems the laptop was still functioning behind the scenes; I just couldn't see anything. After restarting, everything is back to normal, but I'm curious about what I can do to avoid this issue next time. Additionally, I'm aware that the HP Support Assistant isn't working properly for optimizing performance. Here are my laptop details: HP Laptop 15-dw1xxx, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U, 8GB RAM, Intel(R) UHD Graphics. I'd like to focus on software solutions for now since I plan to either upgrade my hard disk or get a new laptop eventually.

It's definitely frustrating when that happens. In addition to updating drivers, I'd suggest running Windows Update regularly. Sometimes, the updates include fixes for display issues. Also, try disabling any background applications that could interfere with your graphics settings. If the problem keeps occurring, maybe think about checking your laptop's performance settings to ensure everything is optimized for your hardware.

Screen blackouts like that can happen on Windows for various reasons. A good first step is keeping your drivers updated, especially your graphics drivers. You can also run a system file check by typing 'sfc /scannow' in Command Prompt to fix any potential issues. If your problem persists, consider looking into your power settings or display settings, as they can sometimes lead to this kind of behavior.
