Why is My PC Suddenly Running Slow?

Hi everyone, I've been experiencing some frustrating slowness with my PC over the last couple of days. There hasn't been a specific change that I can pinpoint, and my Wi-Fi speed is solid at about 500 Mbps. Yet, everything feels sluggish—webpages are slow to load, and my games are lagging significantly. Just to give you more context, I already reset my entire system, but the problem persists. I'm not running any malware, so I'm really stumped about what's causing this issue.

It might be a good idea to run a full system diagnostic. Sometimes, there could be processes that are causing your PC to slow down, and a diagnostic tool can help identify what's tripping things up.

I'll give that a shot, thanks!

If it's a traditional hard drive, consider defragging it. But if you're using SSD or NVMe, defragmentation isn't needed, and actually, Windows does a decent job at managing fragmentation, so it usually shouldn't be a concern unless you're doing heavy file swaps.

A sudden slowdown can often indicate that your system is downloading or installing updates in the background. I've noticed this happening on my devices quite a bit. It could also be your antivirus doing a deep scan.

It's been like this for about 2 days now.

I had a similar slowdown once because my CPU cooler was failing, which caused it to overheat. If your machine feels unusually warm, that might be a thing to check out.

If you can, share a couple of screenshots of your system monitor and the processes you're running. That might give us more clues.

What method did you use to reset your PC? Also, make sure all your hardware drivers are updated after the reset. Sometimes missing or outdated drivers can cause performance issues.

Yeah, they're all up to date.

If you left your PC on for a while without restarting, it could be a background process or disk usage issue. Check your CPU and Disk usage in Task Manager—it often helps identify hidden problems.
