Can I Use an RTX 5070 and RTX 3070 Together for Better Performance?

I've been building PCs for over a decade, and for Christmas, I received a new RTX 5070 to replace my old RTX 3070. I'm also getting a new motherboard because my current one is really outdated. While I think about selling the old 3070, I'm curious if I could run both cards together in my system for any kind of performance boost. I've had some trouble finding clear answers online, so I'm asking here: Is it feasible to run both GPUs together, and would it actually provide any benefits? I won't worry about size limitations of my case or anything like that.

If you're set on a dual-GPU setup, just know that the benefits are limited. Most folks these days find that having one powerful card is more efficient than trying to juggle two. If you're not doing anything super specialized, selling the 3070 might be the best move.

Running both cards in the same PC won't really boost gaming performance. You could use them in specific scenarios like machine learning, but that's pretty niche. SLI isn't supported anymore. If you're looking to maximize your gaming rig, I suggest just selling the 3070 and enjoying the 5070's capabilities on its own.

There are ways to use Lossless Scaling with a second GPU, but honestly, it's not the same quality you'd get from the built-in frame generation on the 5070. Your setup might work for niche applications, but gaming wise, you're not going to see significant gains.

You could use the second card for things like running a second monitor with GPU acceleration, but that's about it. As for dual GPUs, it's mostly a thing of the past unless you really know what you're doing and have specific needs.
