Should I Upgrade to AM5 or Stick with AM4 for My Ryzen Build?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RTX 3060 and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. As I'm planning to upgrade my setup, I'm torn between moving to AM5 or staying with AM4, especially considering the high prices of RAM these days. I'm interested in building a system with an RX 9060 XT. What do you all think?

I decided to stick with AM4 and went from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X. Given the prices, it felt like a smart move to stay put for now.

You might want to grab a 5800X3D or 5700X3D if you can find one. They offer a massive boost in performance, though they can be on the pricier side. Alternatively, consider the 5900X for a solid upgrade and great core count.

The 5700X or 5800XT would be decent upgrades too, if you're looking for more options.

I've upgraded to an RTX 3080 while still on AM4. My B450 motherboard is holding me back a bit, but I’m planning to get a Tomahawk B550 soon. It keeps my upgrade options open. AM5 is tempting, but RAM prices are too much right now, plus having multiple AM4 PCs makes troubleshooting easier.

Is the 5800X at least a bit future-proof?

How's the B450 holding back the 3080? I'm still learning all of this.

If you're thinking about an upgrade, consider getting a Ryzen 5700X3D. It's a solid option that lets you avoid those crazy RAM prices. You'll get great performance without breaking the bank on new memory.

Haha, funny enough, I just posted something similar! The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is hard to find and the resale prices are wild. I managed to grab an R7 5700X for about $145 during a New Year's sale.

Got any cheaper CPU recommendations? It seems like the prices are all over the place!

For those of us in Europe, going for an LGA1700 motherboard with DDR4 and possibly an Intel i5 14600K seems like the best path forward. I’m not looking to spend a fortune on DDR5 RAM along with new components.

Wouldn't Zen3 (Ryzen 5000 Series) be a better fit for DDR4? I saw a guy mentioning the 5600X goes for about €120.
